The Shot: Maria is the Winner

The season finale of The Shot has now aired and it was an emotional episode for the photographers this time. It had come down to the final three, John, Dean and Maria.
They were whisked away to Hawaii to take part in an actual Victoria’s Secret swimsuit shoot and found out that they would be working with three of the top Victoria’s Secret models.
First, they each had to take a group shot with all three models together, then one of each. After the shoot was finished, John was told that he would be going home.
Next, Dean and Maria were taken to a mansion and were told to shoot a cover image for the catalog. They took some fabulous photos, but even though it was a very close one to call, the judges decided to give the win to Maria.
Her shot will be on the cover of the upcoming edition of the catalog. Believe it or not, over the course of the season, I came to like Dean more than before. And he was very graceful when he was told he hadn’t won.
All in all, I think this was the best quality reality show I’ve ever seen produced for VH1. It wasn’t contrived and it didn’t use the lowest common denominator to gain an audience. It’s even one that I’ve heard people talking about over lunch. Great job on this one, VH1. Now, if you could just do that quality of show more often…
How did you like this show? Would you watch a second season? Leave a comment to share your thoughts!

I couldn’t agree with you more. This show is a breath of fresh air. As a woman, I also enjoy watching a show that portrays a women (Maria) who is professional, classy and inspiring to watch. I hope they continue to product these types of programs instead of the typical Tila Tequila/I Love New York/airheads on America’s Most Smartest Model.

I am the only one in the family who has watched the show. I plan to get the family hooked so they will watch if there is a season 2. If not, I’ll be drooling over the host all by myself. He is true eye candy.
I’m SO happy that Maria won. The producers keep picking the wrong winners on the other shows I watch.
ANTM, Project Runway, Top Chef and Most Smartest Model had the wrong winners. I Love New York really had me scratching my head. (Budda was an ass. Taylor Made is a weenie. Punk had it all with his brains, sweetness, and that sexy body.)

I thought the show was terrific and hope that you make a second season. It had a perfect mix of drama but not the same nasty negativity on the other reality shows. Both Dean and Maria (and Jonathan) were great. I’m glad Maria won, but I hope that Dean especially still has a great career.

I loved the show and I predicted Maria to be the winner because of her attitude. You can have the greatest skills, but without a great attitude and people liking you(extremely important), you cannot succeed in careers dealing people. We watch all the reality shows and are very addicted to them, but The Shot was quite a different show. It was more like a photography course. As a photographer, it should have been a lesson for you. Reality shows like The Spot needs to focus on shows that educate the world. It was a great lesson for us in every way. BIG SHOUT OUT to The Spot. We’re waiting for your come back like giving someone an opportunity with a dream to become a photographer. Let’s be positive in what we do. Omar and I will be feeding the homeless tomorrow. Now, that’s a positive thing. I can go on and on but Be Blessed and remember give what you have, do what you can and give what you can. The world needs us. Be thankful that you can even read this. God is alive. I made it to a store at 8:30pm tonight to buy two remote control cars for Omar’s friend kids that would have had no gifts to open in the morning because of financial and couldn’t even a gift for them. Stores in CT close early for Christmas Eve. This store was open because the owner probably doesn’t celebrate Christmas and stayed open late to make more money. I’m also thankful for him because God left his store open for these two little boys to have a gift for Christmas. Tell me he’s not Alive. Let’s make our motto for 2008 one of giving and contributing. It will sure make the world a better place to live, and that we’re desperately in need of now. Don’t you agree?
Love to the World and Seasons Greetings.

As a fledgling photographer, it was inspiring to see what these people got to do. All through the show I knew Maria was a winner. It was obvious in the way she approached things. John and Dean, while both strong, also both have major deficiencies as people. I’d probably like to talk with them, but never to work with them. Maria, I will watch for. I want to know what she does in her careeer (not to mention she’s kind of hot - she stood next to Alessandra Ambrosio and still looked damn good!). Congrats Maria, well done!

Dean needs to work on his attitude. Maybe one of the reasons the judges didn’t give him the win (he is a good photographer as proved by his winning shot of Joss Stone) is because his ego would have been super-inflated.
Take it down a notch and you too will go places.

Kudos to VH1 for producing the BEST reality show on TV!!! Intelligent and informative, especially the critics of the photographers’ work. Although I am not a photographer it was very helpful as I am a visual artist. Greatly looking forward to Season 2! By the way, I missed the final episode–will it be re-run at some point?

I missed the last episode as well and I would love to see it.
Looking forward to Season 2. I’m not a photographer but I love to take pictures, especially landscape and architecture so the tips are very helpful.

Awesome show! It was interesting from the very beginning and I learned some new tips and tricks of the trade. I was sort of expecting Maria to win b/c of her people personality but towards the end I was hoping for Dean to win. He was a much stronger photographer, I thought, and his cocksureness and “oh, i’m much better than all of you” attitude (which to a great degree was true) was surprisingly entertaining and refreshing. Maria is talented as well but she got way too emotional at times.. a bit unnecessary.
Anyway, I’m glad they made a show like this and I’m looking forward to season 2!!

I thought the show was a huge disappointment. For me, it came across as completely amateur. Who was that Russell guy anyway? I would NOT watch a 2nd season. The only reason I saw this one is because my girlfriend is a photographer.

I have to say that i was very excited to see maria when… out of all of the people there she was the one that was most deserving and never once did i ever see maria treat other people wrong… she was the kindest person there… which shows u that nice people can come in first!

The show was not a disappointment. That was the picture of pure competition. A competition were adult with manners did interact. At the beginning Maria was lay back. Many photographers were criticizing her weaknesses with were their strengths. They just didn’t realize that the show was about improvements. That is what she did. The same concept applied to Dean. “SILENT RIVERS RUN DEEP”

I’m from Austin Texas, all I do is watch BET. But when The Shot comes on, everybody knows not to bother me. If anybody doesn’t like this show, it’s because they don’t see beyond, they don’t understand the art of capturing life, I could really go on. CONGRADULATIONS MARIA!! I didn’t get to see the end, but I knew it was John, Maria and Dean. From the beginning you could tell she was a wonderful person with a good eye. If you open your heart, then you could see the most beautiful things you really haven’t noticed, then you will express it. Example; MARIA!

I loved the show and was lucky to see the exciting finale! I actually thought it might be a tie and Maria and Dean both would share the spotlight. They are both sooooo good and Dean has nothing to be ashamed of; his photos were exceptionally fine. But Maria has the X factor:her humanity and her inclusiveness. She makes everyone feel comfortable and at home. I hope this comes out on DVD.

I absolutely would watch a second season. I am a photographer and was talking about how we needed a show like this. . and by accident I found “The shot”. Unfortunately because of my work schedule I had to watch all the episodes online. . .
And If I could I would totally audition for the show. . .

Absolutely bring another season on! I’m a photographer and couldn’t enjoy another reality show more then “the shot”.
Could you consider more airtimes as well. Unfortunately because of my work schedule I had to watch the whole season on the internet. Although I did watch them over and over again.
I loved the different elements that they had to face and the challenges that made them use their creativity and talent.
I would love to have an opportunity like being on “the shot”. If you do go for a second season. {please do} let me know. I would love to audition for an amazing opportunity like this

Loved the show. Thought it wasn’t very well advertised. (Why?) Especially right now, finely crafted reality shows like The Shot are the only reason I turn on my TV.

I would so watch if there was a second season! Being an aspiring photographer myself, I have recorded each episode and watched each about 5 times. And learned techniques!
This is the only reality series I like. Hope there’s a season 2!!!!!

the only thing that miss the show, is talking about lenses, ilumination setup, and meetering.
Even if there be a little of it, as a photography program, it got to have some of technical knowlegde
