The Shot: Balbinka Goes Home
The season premiere was terrific. I can tell already that this is one of the highest quality reality shows I’ve ever seen on VH1. Perhaps they are stepping up their “class factor” and not just relying on tired old stereotypes for their shows… One can only hope…
The show features 10 aspiring fashion photographers who are competing to win a huge cash prize and a career in fashion photography. They were all very talented, but it was obvious right away that they were all pretty much novices.
The first challenge involved expressing “Passion” using two nude models in such a way as to be tasteful and usable in a fashion magazine. More of the shots were suitable for porn sites instead.

Then Piper & Ivan were appointed the team leaders, having done the best work in the first challenge. They chose teams and all went on board an expensive sailing yacht to photograph a Victoria’s Secret supermodel for a hypothetical campaign.
Each team had its issues, most of which came down to lack of experience and a lot of strong personalities.
When all was done, Piper’s team lost the challenge and Balbinka was chosen to go home. It wasn’t all that surprising, since she was the least experienced photographer in the bunch. However, Piper was a very bad team leader and it would have been just as understandable if she had been sent home.
All in all, I love this show. It takes on a new angle of reality shows in that it has the photographers competing instead of the models. If you are a fan of such reality shows as Project Runway or Shear Genius, this show will most likely appeal to you. Check it out!
