Vh1 Supergroup?

by Shea on March 5th, 2006

Is Vh1 creating a “hard rock supergroup?”

Check it out:

VH1 IS CREATING A ROCK SUPERGROUP!

While Ozzfest may prosper and Motley Crue shows sell out, the kingdom of hard rock, still waits for a powerful force to regain dominion over the power chords cut by crunk, pop-punk, and indie rock. Fortunately, VH1 has assembled some of the heaviest rock icons, who stand ready to thrash a new trail of carnage and excess and to lead the hard rock world as their new gods of thunder.

VH1´s SUPERGROUP: Ted Nugent, Scott Ian, Sebastian Bach, Evan Seinfeld and Jason Bonham, are poised to re-conquer the rock world (and hopefully spread a little debauchery and black leather in the process) in the ultimate musical experiment. Premiering Thursday May 18 at 10:00 p.m., SUPERGROUP will bring together these five hard rocking icons and present them with the opportunity to create the heaviest SUPERGROUP. Ultimately viewers will see whether or not band will come together as hard rock´s saviors or simply implode.

Over a of period two weeks in Las Vegas, legendary rock manager, Doc McGhee, will shepard the group towards their fate as hard rock heroes. As a respected manager, he automatically commands the respect of the band members and is not afraid to crack the whip. He´s a taskmaster with a two-week deadline that can´t be missed. On day one, Doc will clearly lay out the stakes, goals, and the limited time that the SUPERGROUP truly has to revitalize and rule hard rock.

Their quest will culminate with a massive concert at The Empire Ballroom in Vegas. Yet the question remains, hard rock is ready to be saved but is the SUPERGROUP ready to save hard rock?

SUPERGROUP - VH1´s Hard Rock Reality Show Premieres May 18th

Ted Nugent & Sebastian Bach… Um. I don’t know about saving hard rock, per se. But it should make for some seriously entertaining television.

Others are all hiding their dope from Officer Nugent. By the way, there’s already a group called “Supergroup”, and there’s also a group called “Fist” who plays heavy metal, and have a CD called Storm. Fist have been around for ages. They regrouped around 2001 (I think), and now they’re old fat guys. Ol’ Bach and the others better be looking up other names. Lot’s of big heads for a small room. A match made in hell.
Also a note about the header above, Hard Rock has never died or faded. It’s just that the audience is bigger and varied in different tastes. As a result, many Metal bands can’t make a buck like the “good old days”. Everyone has split in the many different directions of todays music. Look how many “Metal” styles there are today. Ozzfest sells out because of all the variety of bands that show up. Motley Crue sells out because they offer a sex show on stage. (hell, sex sells!) Dominion will never return because times are always changing. Mozart was a hot, drug using, fast playing party monster in his day. The church hated Mozart. Old folks hated Mozart. The youth of the time went crazy over him! Girls went googoo over him! But would we be playing Mozart at rock concerts today? Time to move on. (Although in a way, nothing seems to really change. The old always looks dorky to the new).
…Oh, and Ian, go ahead, put on that spandex! Maybe Nugent can put on a gay cop outfit like that Judas Priest frontman! Yoowww!!! (Don’t drop the soap Sebastian…)

Watching ‘Supergroup’, is has become painfully obvious why Doc McGhee kicked Sebastian Bach out of Skid Row. Sebastian is confusing being a spoiled ass with being Rock. Yes, the band members live a particular kind of life-style, but as it is also their job they must have a certain amount of professionalism in order to succeed. On a daily basis, Sebastian is disrespectful and rude to the people who are there to help him. No one is saying that he has to agree with everything they say and do exactly as told, but there are ways to express himself other than being an ignorant dick. Even the rest of the Supergroup guys cringe at much of Sebastian’s behavior. I work in the industry - with heavy bands - and I promise you that most of the guys are excellent to deal with. I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with Scott Ian once and he was a polite, cool guy who was professional with me as I was there to assist him with something. This is how most band members behave, not like Sebastian. Why do you think Scott Ian and some of the other guys look so bemused and/or irritated? Mr. Bach needs to grow up and understand that he doesn’t know it all and the world does not revolve around him - no matter how many records the band he was in sold once upon a time. The only thing Sebastian is currently succeeding at is providing us with modern day Spinal Tap type viewing that is entertaining for all the wrong reasons. The rest of the Supergroup team deserves better.

yeah Bach’s gotta go…he’s not THAT good of a singer, dealing with his bad habits/behavior isn’t worth what he brings to the table. None of these guys are real incredible, but at least most act like adults. Face it Bas, it’s not 1989 anymore, no one cares, you’re not that good.
Ted needs to kick his ass on camera.

Bach needs about a full roll of duct tape to shut him up and keep him seated. I’m actually a bit gonzoed that Nuge is as quiet as he is in the show. Nuge has more self control these days (unless it’s at a NRA meet). But pleeeease… DO SOMETHING ABOUT BACH!!! Yikes!!! Nuge should conduct a search on Bach to find out where he’s hiding the blow! Have Bach pee in a lab cup or something, for Christ’s sake! Jeeeeeeezzz! Nobody can slam down that much wine and stay that hyped!

Sebastian Boch (one has to wonder how an
effeminate 80s has-been with no talent could
end up with the name of one of the greatest
musicians the world has produced) is an utterly
insufferable punk. He wouldn’t last 10 seconds
outside of his sheltered little world that nobody
    gives a shit about anyway.

And Ted Nugent - I thought he was from the school
that would take a skinny girly-boy like Boch and teach him to shut his never-ending, extremely
irritating babble. He needs a good ass kicking,
and Nugent should be the one to do it. If he
    won’t, I gladly will.

    He’s done. Over. Yesterday’s news.

Supergroup = whiteguys? So a supergroup means that it must be Metal, and it must be all white and all male? I know this must be a brainstorm from an aging white fellow like myself, who grew up on older rock and metal like early Ozzy and old Zep, but what about other flavors of music. A hip-hop/rap supergroup? Just think, get some east cost rappers, some west cost rappers, some black ganged, some hispanic ganged, some asian ganged, and also Eminem and Pink, put them all together in some stupid looking house that none of them like, add other people that are totally out of wack with the rest of the gang, have it managed by Nsync’s team for loads of gags, distract them with wads of cash and big-assed G-cladded women, create a theme that only an idiot can think of, then just watch as the bullets fly! Now that would be a show, big butted women in G’s, gold teeth, gold chains, fury big pimp hats, pimps, shameless displays of wads of cash, shiny riced cars with stupid rims, fur, guns, Snoopdog in every photo op… Heck, throw Ted into the mix anyway… Kaboom!!! Better still, throw in Bach, and see what ally they find him lying in! Heehee…Yaaaooooowwww…

Deenece, you got a point there. It’s typical of these kind of shows to rehash people. Just use glasses and hair color changes, give them different names and scripts, different clothing styles, reuse the same idiots over and over to save bucks on auditioning… It’s all a load of phony crap anyway. But what else do we have for a pacifier on the o’ boob-toob? It’s sad, but masturbating is more fun these days.

  • GuitarManiac
    Jun 16, 2006 at 10:03 am

Who’s bright idea was it to put these 5 out of work ego maniacs together. It’s no wonder they’re not doing anything else. The name FIST is already taken, Savage Animal would be a good name for a song, but not a band. SuperGroup indicates the joining of SuperStars or Musicians, not a bunch of overwieght, overaged, losers nobody else wants in their band. They have little chance of naming the band, let alone writing a hit song!

This was the worst thing that Sebastian Bach could have done. Now the whole world knows what an obnoxious, immature, talentless, narcissistic, alcoholic egomaniac he really is.

Rob Cavallo is a music producer who has produced several well-known albums. He is currently a senior VP at Reprise Records.

Cavallo was born in Washington, DC; his father (also named Rob) was working in the music industry as a manager. When the younger Rob was about age ten the family moved to Los Angeles, California. As a teen he played in local bands, and after graduating from high school he began working as a recording engineer. In the early 1990s he began working as a producer with the band The Muffs.

Cavallo’s number one claim to fame, however, is being responsible for Green Day’s signing to Reprise. After listening to a demo tape in his car, Cavallo decided to sign the band. The admiration was mutual, as Green Day was extremely fond of Cavallo’s work on the Muffs albums.

Cavallo is an in-house producer with the band Green Day. He has co-produced almost every album, since their multi-million seller Dookie and he has worked also on their most recent conceptual punk-rock opera American Idiot. Cavallo has also produced records for Goo Goo Dolls, Chris Isaak, and Alanis Morissette, plus a number of motion picture soundtracks. He also recently produced Jewel’s 6th album, entitled Goodbye Alice In Wonderland.

Cavallo will be producing My Chemical Romance’s third album on April 10, 2006, which should be released sometime later in the same year or 2007. ([1])

I was cracking up reading this.

    Judging by the groups
he has worked with it’s safe to say I don’t think Damnocracy
needs him or his thought. Doc why would you ask this guy.

I think it’s obvious he would not like it.
    Why did he not ask
    Zeus (Hatebreed),Johnny K (Disturbed),Roy Z (Halford)
Dave Forman (EvaneScence) or anyone who has helped produce
some of the Modern Metal Bands & some of the best work out there.

While it’s obvious the guy is successful he is use
to dealing with pop & punk.

    Green Day sounds dated
There sound came from the end of the 70’s
Which is 10 years before the 80’s so by these standards
Damnocracy is all ready a head of them!

Again I just find it funny that Docs Expert’s claim
    to Fame is “DOOKIE”
    Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

They are only showing what they want
the Public to see. Decadence,Anger & Aggression.
Sounds Kick Ass to me. The thing is if they showed Baz
in his laid back self it could make for boring TV so they
are only choosing his moments of madness…….

As for the Stool Softener Doc…………
Lo I Q hi RP Ms?

Is he talking about the same guy who became
Jekyll & Hyde & Jesus Christ Superstar?

Those are tough roles both vocally & mentally.
No offense to Sebastian but I don’t think he could have
or would have done them at age 16,but mid 30 he has
proven to be true multitalented artist, who can Handel
these challenging roles & continues to reinvent him self.

Doc I think your ride is over…………
Doc is kicking him self cause he knows he
let the talent slip through his fingers………..
And he is doing it again. I would be suprised
    if Damnocracy kept him.

Sabasian is a prick! When that artist did that picture of them and Jason wanted the group to sign it and give it to a childrens charity, Sabasian only wanted to put it in his living room. He should stick it up his….I don’t believe they only show his “bad side” either. This show hasn’t been on that long and it only shows Bas being a drunken, obnoxious jerk! And yes, he did do Jeckyl and Hyde but he didn’t finish his tour of JCSS. Wonder why? Maybe no one could put up with his primadonna ass! Just a thought!

Who the hell cares what Sabastian has done since ‘96′. I used to like Skid Row, but since this VH1 Supergroup show I don’t think I could watch ANYTHING with Sabastian in it! You might be the biggest Bach fan alive but I find it painful to watch him and his giant ego.

Over all I love the show……
    Sex,Drums & Rock “n” Roll

You have a ton of people who do not
normally live together trying to make things work
in 12 days. That’s pressure plus who acts the same when
they are on Camera. Common you must have a tape some where on vacation
watch it & see if that’s you on a daily basses.

Not sure if you said it
but someone said they could see why
Doc fired him, Doc said lo IQ high RPM’s yet Sebastian
has gone beyond what they thought was going to happen.

They figured he would roll over & die. But he has
gone on to have a lot of success. The Broad way roles
are not easy yet he pulled all 4 off. Yes JCSS was stopped.
    after 8 months with 2 shows a day 6 days a week “Damn” that’s a lot…

I think this SUPERGROUP is going to be huge come 2007………
Damnocracy line up is a Killer combination.

Sebastian & Evan’s voice will compliment
each other. I have been a Biohazard fan since
I first heard the song Punishment. Scott Ian is the Face of Anthrax
& one of the best Speed Metal/Trash Metal players out there..Jason
has done some cool stuff “Damn” he looks different then when he was in the movie
Rock Star. Uncle Ted I must say I “only” have heard a hand full of song from him
    including “Damn” Yankees…..

But so far I love the song “TAKE IT BACK”

SEBASTIAN BACH: ‘Sometimes I Gotta Pinch Myself Because I’m So Happy Doing What I’m Doing’ - June 22, 2006

Pat Jess Douglas of the Great Falls Tribune recently conducted an interview with former SKID ROW and current DAMNOCRACY frontman Sebastian Bach. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

On being asked to represent mainstream headbangers in recent times:

"I didn’t ever figure out why I get the things I do, but I am the luckiest guy in rock, For VH1 to treat me the way they do and for Axl Rose to say ‘come and open the [GUNS N’ ROSES] tour,’ it’s like what the hell? Really, sometimes I gotta pinch myself because I’m so happy doing what I’m doing."

    On being in the spotlight:

"Back in the late ’80s, they played these things called rock videos. They were like little movie clips … film clips of the songs. Now they don’t make rock videos anymore, really. Now, MTV and VH1 are mostly reality shows. If they change the format, but I’m still on (TV), then I’m down with that. All that means is when I come into your town, you’re gonna come see the show, so I’m definitely fine with that."

On "SuperGroup", a seven-part series that gives Bach and four forced bandmates (Scott Ian, Ted Nugent, Evan Seinfeld and Jason Bonham):

"This show seems to be interested in the personalities of rock and roll. To me the music’s more interesting than that. Maybe people like seeing guys fight … and stuff like that. It is interesting to see the choices that we all make. It’s an interesting insight into what’s important to each one of us.

"If me and Evan get in a fight or I get drunk, or Ted Nugent gets mad at me ’cause I’m too drunk … it’s very interesting to see all of that unfold. The exposure you get on these shows is outrageous. It’s like, we want you to do a reality show, but don’t tell me what my reality is. Don’t say ‘OK, Sebastian, this is your reality.’ I’ll never do that. I know how to sing in a rock band."

"I love the show. People are driving past my house going, ‘SuperGroup!’ It is getting kind of crazy. My life is exploding again, which is fun. But you asked for it, you got it, here it is. Get ready."

On his long-awaited solo album, "Angel Down", due October:

"I’m extremely excited because I’ve been working on this album for five years, at least, which is a long time. Not quite as long as Axl, but it’s still pretty long. It’s really a great time for rock and roll."

    DAMNDEMOS ONLINE NOW
It is more than a little frustrating to watch the show & see little to no footage of the band actually playing music. When I say on the show “well we jammed for 6 or 7 hours today” but they show none of it , it drives me nuts! The whole infamous “fight scene” with Evan & myself actually occured after dinner , late at night , & by the time we got into the mayhem it was 2 or 3 in the morning. When you have a full jam room in the house it is fun to get loose have a few drinks & jam. But all that occured after a full day of playing music stone cold sober ….. which is not on the show! So here are 3 demos that I did on my laptop… extremely low quality & zero production … if we ever cut these tunes, they would probably sound nothing like these demos …. but I figured that if they can show me completely rotted out of my skull on the show, I can share with you these crude but rocking demos that we did while in Vegas. These songs are not done at all. I don’t know if they ever will be. I am not a producer or an engineer. Hopefully we can cut these songs for real someday! I will be posting remixes & more DAMNOCRACY music here so stay tuned.

To “Acekicken” : I still think your Baz’s biggest fan, but I do want to know if he got his drinking under control after the show ended. You seem to know everything else about him, thought you might know this too. (I’m not trying to be a smart-ass, I truely want to know if he’s ok. Seemed like a BIG problem on S.G.) Maybe that was part of the problem on S.G. and why he came off looking so bad.

I hate to say it, but due to my inexplicable habit of watching mindless television I have been watching Supergroup for the last few weeks. I have to say that I do enjoy watching these guys on the show, but, musically, they aren’t making any relevant music. They’re playing covers. So for those of you that think this band is going to do anything after this show is through taping, you’re wrong. Ted Nugent didn’t seem to like anything they did as a band, nor did Bonham. Scott Ian still has a real band that I’m sure he’d rather put his effort towards. Biohazard dude is into his wife’s career, and Bach, well, he’d do anything to stay in the D-list limelight. Face it, this project lasted 12 days and that’s all.

Wow, over 33,000 plays in a day. You people are curious about the music we created. That rules. Maybe they will actually let you hear some next week in the finale. Wouldn’t that be amazing? Music is the reason the 5 of us were asked to be in the house and then that reason gets thrown out the window when it comes to what gets shown. Hmm, what’s more interesting, me eating, or me JAMMING WITH TED NUGENT?????
Anyway, enough ranting for now. It was fun to watch episode 6 with Sebastian and Evan last night. Please come check me out at http://www.myspace.com/scottian

    Hot Flashes
ANTHRAX Guitarist SCOTT IAN Defends SEBASTIAN BACH In The Wake Of Supergroup Episodes
Posted on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 05:43:11

A phone interview with ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian conducted by Cort And Fatboy out of Portland, OR is now online at this location. According to the website, during the 11 minute interview “Scott talks about his chances at the Rock N’ Roll Hall Of Fame, how VH1 tried to stiff him his money, and how tricky they REALLY had to get to make Supergroup look like drama central.”

Towards the end of the interview Ian comments on Supergroup’s portrayal of DAMNOCRACY vocalist Sebastian Bach as a diva: “What you see on the show isn’t really what it was like in the house. You don’t see the other 14 hours of the day where Sebastian isn’t doing what they show him doing. He never acted like that towards me or towards the guys in the band. It was just the way he would react to the stupid things they would throw at him knowing the reaction they were going to get from Sebastian. They’d get 30 seconds of him yelling at somebody and go ‘Okay, now we can create this story around Sebastian The Diva, Sebastian The Bad Guy.’ He’s so not that; they had to create that image. I understand they were doing their job because it was TV show but it’s kind of annoying because he’s getting a bad rap that he really doesn’t deserve.”

I grew listening to Skid Row but now that we are adults its a shame to see Sebastian Bach still acting like a teenager. His head is just full of air… I am very impressed with Scott Ian who is not a big mouth and very sober in his attitude, also Jason Bonham. On behalf of Nugent, his quite a jerk with a bad ass attitude but i love his music.

    Sep 2, 2006 at 9:33 pm

This show is great, problem is the music industry p-ssies putting their lame-ass 2cents worth in. Especially that little prissy qu–r and his boring personality-less rail of a girl sidekick.

These musicians made huge it without the over corporatization of their image, sound and souls. Music industry wonders what happened, why it’s so hard to sell music these days???Because they made music a business and therefore it has become what it used to rebel against. duh.

The reason metal has gone back underground has nothing to do with it not being popular and loved, but because they don’t want to play ball with these industry greedmongers who clearly have no idea what it takes to make GREAT music. And great music sells.

You might be able to sell crappy one-hit-wonder hip-hop and boring bubblegum pop to lame-ass boomers and their kids, but the real fans of music are listening to music that you can’t control.

And your loss of control is causing you to blame people who download music instead of realizing that the real problem is you, the INDUSTRY, who feels the need to control what it produces to exploit that for profit from advertising and cross-promotion, “branding is so important “etc.

In other words, the talentless dime-a-dozen PR, marketing, image and business suits - the “bottom feeders” so to speak, know that if the music industry was left in control of the fans and the talent, they would be out of their dream-job. And really, those losers should never have had jobs in the first place. They have nothing to offer.

Key to reviving music sales: GREAT MUSIC. And though your “Joey Fatone” boy bands still sell albums (questionable actually), the only reason why is because the industry pretty much whores out their image and ignores those musicians who are more innovative and talented simply because those musicians don’t want to play ball with the industry suits.

So VH1, next SuperGroup, if you want me to watch, lose the losers and unlease the talent. I don’t want to see any more stale rail women and prissy fussy gays spewing their ideas- which clearly suck.

IM waiting on season 2! Did anyone catch the post shows on VH1
Classic? That was even better then watching the guys have dinner & fight with
the PR team, stupid photographers & all the other BS they put in there way.

Looks like Ted is booked into 2008 with all his other
    adventures.

    A new thought, Take Sebastian,Scott,Evan & Jason
put them in a studio to record the music, all the while searching
for stand in Guitarist or replacement. Finish an EP of Music & follow the
    band on a Mini tour.

Quit showing dinner, get rid of Doc & put the band
in a situation of what a band is suppose to do make Music & Rock concerts.

    Suggestion of Guitarist.

Ace Frehley (Kiss) has recorded with Sebastian on many songs
Paul Crook (Meatloaf) formally of Anthrax & Sebastian Bachs band
Wolf Hoffman (Accept) Has recorded with Sebastian
Zack Wylde (BLS/OZZY) Has jammed with Sebastian & Jason

or find a new Ax Slinger from a Contest or Demo/video search.

DAMNOCRACY is a “KILLER” Band in the making
the show would have been better if VH1 would have shown less
    Drama & more Mussic!

The last time I saw sebastian was in the eighties, I even drew a pic of him for a school mate that had a massive thing for him, even I thought he was a bit of a dish. Now I’ve just seen him on the show and oh my god he’s a real knob. Seb the dish is now seb the knob, poor fella.

I love Sebastian. He is one of my favourite singers, I think he just gorgeous and have been loving Supergroup which is on episode three here in New Zealand.

Sebastian has his routines and the publisist never warns him in advance of the days events, she tells him 5 minutes beforehand that he had an interview/ photo shoot, which just goes to show that they are trying to get a reaction from him.

I dont think he is being a diva, in fact I love his over the top reactions. Having the PR people, designers, Managers etc we can all see what bands have to put up with.

Imagine if it was us put on international tv and people could go made putting us down, analysing the way we looked etc, would we get flowing reviews? doubt it…people need to stop hiding behind their computer screens and realise you are talking about a real life person here, what would he think if he was reading these comments?
